How do Active Listener campaigns work?

  • Using an Instagram Reel, Rise will drive targeted and engaged audiences to your song on Spotify.
  • This campaign is designed to grow the active audience, consisting of the most-engaged users in an audience. These listeners stream songs multiple times, add to their playlists, and share with friends. 
  • By growing the Active Audience, your song may also trigger additional algorithmic play from Spotify on playlists like Radio, Release Radar, Discover Weekly, Mixes, and more.

What type of content works best?

  • Examples of top performing content are on this Product Page, about halfway down.
  • The most consistent content: You, front and center, looking into the camera lip-syncing the song with lyrics overlaid. 
  • The background should be pleasant / engaging / well-lit, i.e. nature or a studio.
  • Content should be related to the song you’re promoting.
  • Reel should feature the song you’re promoting via this campaign.

How does targeting work?

  • Our targeting is powered by large sets of audience data and proprietary strategy. Our campaigns operate by targeting the users who are most likely to engage with your content based on past behavior & engagement.
  • Rise offers two geographic targeting options, “Global” and “Big 5” (US / UK / CAN / AUS / NZ) targeting.
  • Additional targeting limits the volume of results we’re able to gain & guarantee, so we recommend sticking with either Global or Big 5. 

Should I post the Reel from my own profile?

  • Yes, we generally see higher engagement on Reels posted from the artist’s profile.
  • If you aren’t able to, or don’t want to post it on your own profile, we can run the campaigns as a “dark ad” from one of our music discovery branded accounts. 
  • When posting to your profile please do not add anything in-app such as stickers, audio, or text. Everything must be within the video file itself already in order for ads to be approved.

How do I give Rise permission to run ads? 

Can I upload multiple assets?

  • Yes, you can submit up to 4 assets and the Facebook ads manager will automatically prioritize spend on the best performing assets. No need to A/B test or guess what will work best.
  • Submit links to alternate assets in the “Alternate Visual Asset” field. 
  • If running ads from the artist’s account, submit Instagram Reel links. If running “dark ads” then submit Google Drive or similar cloud links that won’t expire with sharing permissions on. 

When should I run an Active Listener campaign?

  • As soon as a song is released. Campaigns require an active Spotify song or album link to run.
  • Campaigns can be purchased and scheduled in advance, but won’t start until we receive an active Spotify link and Instagram Reel post link or visual assets.
  • If running the campaign from your profile, we need Meta Ad Permissions before we can start the campaign. Make sure to grant those from rise.la/create/connect
  • We’re trying to concentrate traffic around a new release to both grow the Active Audience and try to trigger plays on Spotify’s algorithmic playlists (Radio, Release Radar, Discover Weekly, Mixes, etc.) so the sooner the better.

How do I understand my results? 

  • Rise guarantees a specific number of Engagements on the Reel we’re using to drive traffic to the song on Spotify. We’ll also report CTA Clicks (high-intent “Call To Action” clicks to go stream the song).
  • You’ll receive weekly reporting via email that contains those key metrics, and you can monitor the results in real time from rise.la/dashboard.
  • Additional reporting is available in Spotify for Artists. To view the “Active Audience” segment, head to https://artists.spotify.com/
    • Click “Audience” from the left-side menu
    • Next to “Segmentation” click “Source of Streams”
    • Select “All Active Sources”
  • After completing the above steps, you’ll see your Active Audience numbers over the last 28 days. You can see a longer timeline by clicking “Filters” and selecting a custom range.

How can I make the most of my Active Listener campaign? 

  • Active Listener campaigns generally perform best when paired with Exposure Campaigns
    • This way we’re driving large amounts of traffic from our extended playlist network in addition to the traffic we’re sending from Instagram.
  • Follow the content recommendations above to decide on a visual asset.
  • If you aren’t sure which visual asset to use, submit additional links following the instructions below.
  • Submit the campaign as soon as possible after a song is live on Spotify. Make sure your Meta Ad Permissions are setup before the campaign is submitted.
  • Choose “Global” targeting for higher guaranteed results, choose “Big 5” targeting if you’re only focused on those markets and don’t mind lower total results.
