How Do I Understand My Spotify Exposure Campaign Results?

Are you running, or have recently run a Spotify Exposure Campaign with Rise, and want to better understand the results and how it’s positively impacting your music on Spotify?

We also encourage you to read our detailed explainer of how Rise Exposure campaigns work: https://rise.la/guides/detailed-guide-to-spotify-exposure-campaigns/

But let’s start with what a Spotify Exposure campaign delivers:

  1. Get your song discovered and heard by brand new listeners via Meta Ads.
  2. Get your song pitched to the Tout Playlist Network curators.
    • For all Subscription Exposure campaigns, and Single Exposure campaigns with budgets of $750+ get your song submitted to the curators in our verified partner network, and authentic playlists.
  3. Increase authentic streams from real, targeted listeners.
  4. No fake streams, shady playlists, or too-good-to-be true results.

A Rise Exposure campaign is a great way to attain all of these  goals, and create a positive algorithmic impact for your music. They also were designed to work with our Spotify Conversion campaigns.

What’s happening during my Exposure Campaign?

Rise Exposure campaigns were designed to maximize ad impressions and ad engagements on a social ad promoting your song. Engagements are defined as clicks/taps, not to be confused with comments or likes. This exposure increases streaming, but it is against the terms of service to guarantee any amount of streaming performance or placement.

Targeted social ads with your music will introduce your song to thousands of potential listeners, and result in authentic streams from our first-party Tout Playlist Network.

Reading your results in your Dashboard

First, from your dashboard, simply click VIEW next to the campaign you want to look at.

Note for customers with subscription campaigns, all results from the duration of the subscription will be compiled cumulatively in the original campaign order. The original order will include the status (Live, Processing, or Completed), and will always include Platform (Spotify), and Optimize For (in this case, Exposure).

Once you click VIEW, you will see your Campaign Details:

Under Campaign Details, you can confirm and track all pertinent details of your campaign.

Campaign Name: This is not listener-facing, so aside from your own record keeping, there’s no need to stress the name, or even any typos that may have been incorrectly entered when the campaign was created.

Platform: This identifies the platform your campaign is designed to perform on, i.e. Spotify (or YouTube, Instagram, etc. for other campaigns).

Budget: This is the amount you spent to promote this track, or the monthly amount if you created a subscription campaign.

Frequency: This will either read single, for Single campaigns, or Subscription, for on-going campaigns.

Date Created: This is the date the campaign was created. For subscription campaigns, this is also the date the campaign will renew and on which you will be charged for the next month of promotion. Note this is the renewal date for subscriptions, even if you scheduled your campaign to start on a later date.

Start Priority: This field will indicate whether you scheduled to start the campaign ASAP, or on a specific date. Please note the date format is MM/DD/YYYY. Additionally, Exposure campaigns can not begin until the song being promoted has been released on Spotify.

Optimize For: For Spotify campaigns this will be either Conversions, Exposure or Active Listeners.

Artist Name: This is the name of the artist being promoted with this campaign. This can be helpful for managers, agencies and labels who run campaigns for multiple artists.

Artists Profile Link: Again, this is the Spotify Artist Profile link being promoted with this specific campaign.

Song Link: This is the song being promoted for this campaign. For Exposure campaigns this is the song that we’re featuring in the social ads, as well as the song that is submitted to playlist curators.

For Subscriptions campaigns this field will change as you update your campaign. See below.

Estimated Engagements: This is the minimum number and anticipated range of ad engagements you’ll earn from your Rise Exposure campaign. Please note that ad engagements do not equal streams.

Playlist Submission:  This is the playlist genre, mood/vibe you selected to be considered for. Keep in mind our playlists are curated more by mood and vibe, rather than by specific genres. We understand many artists and songs don’t fit neatly into a specific genre.

Campaign Report

Playlist Submission:  As explained above, this is the playlist genre, mood/vibe you selected your track to be considered for.

Playlist Link: In this field you will see hyperlinks to the playlist (or playlists) your song has been added to as a direct result of your Rise campaign. We will never take credit for additional playlist ads, or organic results not generated from our campaign.

Spotify Playlist Adds: This field will give you the name of the playlists you have been added to as a result of your current Rise Exposure campaign.

Engagements: This is the number ad engagements your song clip has received. Think taps/clicks on the CTA link in the sponsored post. This number updates every 24 hours. Please note that ad engagements do not equal streams on Spotify.

Impressions: This is the number ad impressions your song clip has received. This number updates every 24 hours.

Engagements vs. Impressions: With an impression a user only sees an advertisement. An engagement, or a click, happens when the user actually follows through and clicks on the ad. While engagements are ultimately more valuable, impressions are still an important metric for digital marketers.

Update Release Date: If you have a production delay, or just need to let us know your upcoming release date has changed, you can click this button and fill out the form.

Update Song Link: (Only applicable to subscription campaigns) If you want to change the focus track for your Exposure campaign, just click this button and fill out the form. To confirm the change went through, you can look at your Campaign Details, under SONG NAME to confirm the campaign updated.

Looking at corollary benefits of your Exposure campaign

Remember: the core benefits of your Exposure campaign are:

  • Ad Impressions
  • Ad Engagements
  • Bonus Playlist Submissions
  • Increased exposure to targeted music fans
  • New listeners and real streams

To see how many streams your track has earned as a result of this campaign, as well as other corollary analytics, just log into your Spotify For Artists account.

First, this is how you can track the overall performance of your song. Just click on the MUSIC tab in your Spotify For Artists profile. From the Releases tab under MUSIC, you can see your songs listed in the order they have been released. Note: you have four filtering options, in the upper, right-hand corner, and depending on the duration of your campaign, you may want to toggle between different time frames: 7 Days, 28 Days, 12 Months, or All-Time.

Note: when you filter for All-Time you won’t be able to see the total number of saves, but you can see the historical streams of your releases.

Then, click on PLAYLISTS. Starting at the top of the page, you’ll see Spotify’s ALGORITHMIC playlists. Here you can track and sort your algorithmic performance. It’s very common for artists to see an increase in their algorithmic traction as a result of consistent use of Rise Conversion and Exposure campaigns. Again, this data can be sorted by the same time frames as above: last 28 days, Last 7 Days, the Last 12 Months, or you can select a Custom range.

First you’ll see all ALGORITHMIC playlists your music is currently featured on:

While Rise can’t guarantee algorithmic success, running Spotify Conversion and Exposure campaigns together increases your chances of landing on Release Radar, Discover Weekly, etc.

Next, if you continue to scroll down, you will see EDITORIAL Playlists (if applicable), and then LISTENER Playlists. Note: Rise does not currently offer a campaign designed to earn editorial placements, but building a robust and authentic audience through a well-rounded marketing strategy is a great first step.

Next you can look for our TOUT branded playlists to see what songs were added, as well as any other playlists that appear in your dashboard. Sort by your preferred time frame (Last 7 Days, Last 28 Days, etc.) to see how many bonus streams you earned from Tout, or our Verified Partner Network. You can expand your filtering option to see beyond the top-5 listener playlists. For many of our artists, our Tout Playlist Network has proven to be their biggest and best source of authentic streams.

You can also dive deeper into the song itself, and see how Rise Playlists have impacted that song:

In the above screenshot will see the specific song and a comprehensive list of playlists it was added to. For this particular artist’s track, it landed on multiple Tout Playlists, and delivered thousands of streams. Once again, you can sort by your preferred time frame (Last 7 Days, Last 28 Days, etc.).

If you’re looking for more detailed general info on your overall profile, just click back over to the AUDIENCE tab.

As before, you can sort by your preferred time frame (Last 7 Days, Last 28 Days, etc.).

LISTENERS: The total number of listeners you’ve achieved over the selected time frame. The chart is showing your Spotify Listeners, and you can track the total change in the bottom right hand corner. Here you can see the artist enjoyed a significant, but authentic and realistic spike in Listeners at the beginning of their Rise Campaign, and it continued to show a residual increase. This particular increase was a 260-percent rise over the previous 28-day period.

You can tab over to see additional metrics, like Streams, Steams/Listener, Saves, Playlist Ads and Followers.

Now that you’ve seen the direct results of your Rise Exposure campaign, you can read more about how using your Spotify For Artists analytics you can check out this helpful article from Spotify: https://artists.spotify.com/en/blog/how-to-read-your-spotify-for-artists-data
